I seriously doubt considering what GW used to look like before BETA and how it looks now that they'd go all cutesy with the graphics capabilities offered.

I agree with ya Red.
I've heard many ppl wishing (including me) some kind of new race, or at least something that looks a bit different to humans and can be played in game. I also wish to be able to change the looks of a char or it's name after it has been created, hey.. why not even have only one char and change both it's primary AND secondary if we can change it looks (can't have a necro look like a warrior, can't we now). I wish many things from a new game or expansion, or campaign,, or whatever ANnet is releasing for GW (we don't even know THAT), and I think they are taking our wishes and posts into consideration.
Now.. wasn't this supposed to be a thread about a new minipet ?¿ If it's just that, a mini, then ... no worries: just another thing to trade and show in outposts.

I like it.
I like it an hope lots of ppl will hate it, so can I can buy it cheap. I will have to buy it, since I wont be buying a Magazine, since Anet doesnt do anything to support DUTCH players, who provide a big part of the market. Yes, I'm aware of the fact that I can buy English magazines as well. But I'm not gonna buy a magazine I'm not gonna read anyway, just for a pet.

Not really, no.
While I'm not going to state my personal opinion on the new pet, I think I can shed some light on why there's such a fuss about this little guy, and not the Grey Giant...
Firstly, the Giant may be really, really ugly, but it is NOT CUTESY. I think there are a lot of GW players that play GW not only because it's free, but because it's free of little mouse thingies like the tiny little guys in FFXI, and many, many others. They don't belong in GW, while the Giant, ugly as he is, fits in fine.
Nobody wants gnomes. Even God hates gnomes. ^_^
As if that weren't enough to get people complaining (and it is), there's this evil rumor that this thing is going to be a playable race. Now, I'd have trouble believing that even if it came straight from Gaile's mouth, so I'm certainly not going to believe it now, but the rumor is still there.
What's more annoying than a twelve-year-old wammo in your PUG? A twelve-year-old wammo in your PUG that looks like a bald baby rabbit, that's what. ^_^
Therefore, let the fuss continue...

And it's been said many many times before that people are overreacting to unconfirmed rumors right now. We dont even know if Asuras will be a playable race or if the minipet is the actual version we get to play.
But I guess people take offense at being told not to jump to conclusions and find it patronizing...

Fickle folks make for bad critics.
I welcome all goofy, creepy, cute, or down right fugly thingies.
I couldn't care less if my friend played a giant ballon animal while I pranced around in my kickass armour. So long as we were having fun.

You're a man after my own heart, Redfeather. Well said! People need to stop dwelling on what the creatures look like.
Besides, one thing that it is definately not is "cartoony", as so many keep calling it. Cutesy, maybe. Doesn't make it any less realistic. After all, kittens are cutesy, and they're real.
So, to summarize, you can hate this thing for every reason in the book, but it in no way reflects a cartoony style. Fear not, this game is not turning into WoW, Lineage, or FFXXXIIIIXMCMV and 2/3rd.

I see some of you have picked up that we updated the list of magazines with a second list of those who will be covering Guild Wars in the next month or two (or three).
As noted below that list, some of those magazines may decide to offer the Asura miniature as well. Magazine editors are in the business of selling magazines so they can make money. If they think there's enough demand for those miniatures that they'll sell more miniatures by having it in their magazine, they'll be more likely to offer it.
This is where you come in: tell them you want the miniature. Tell them you want Guild Wars coverage. Our press manager is working very hard with magazines throughout Europe, and you can help make his job a lot easier.

I got a feeling the only reason we haven't seen this thing before is because it lives an exotic area cut off from the rest of the world surrounded by super harsh, snowy mountains. Hence the title 'Eye of the North'.
Just a feeling.

Cool. Australia is now on the list of magazines! And the issue is on sale just one day after the one in the US. That's really some good news. I'm sure we all feel so loved right about now (except those people who don't really care). Hopefully they also decide to offer the minipet in the Australian magazine, that would really make my day.

Yes! Totally right!
Allelujah!
In general- you want cute, fuzzy little thingies that make cute eyes? Plz go play pokemon and DO NOT bring any friggin pokemons to GW!
THERE IS NOTHING WORSE than pink haired gnome jumping around! It's disgusting AND stupid...

Ugh. I want nothing to do with Chibi-styled stuff like this pet, whether they are a playable race or not. I don't like anime period and this just SMACKS of it.
There's nothing else in the entire game that looks like this pet, art-wise, and it's totally out of place. That's a good thing, because I wouldn't have bought Guild Wars if it was. Ugh.

I really don't care about the minipet looking "cutesy". Till now Arenanet has done a great job on designing the whole guild wars world, i've loved every single bit of it. So i'm confident they will do it a second time in GW2 no matter how "cute" the characters will be. I'm sure i'll love it.
If that surain resembles a playable model for GW2, i'll be happy they've added that character to the game. Finally a great game with other races than the standard elf/orc/troll boringness. Even though the inquirer stated some information not confirmed yet, i do hope the tengu will be a playable race, or will be added later.
Funny how people say that cute characters don't belong in GW. You're probably not really aware of the fact YOU ARE NOT DESIGNING THIS GAME.

Did you even think about the possibility of the
Do you know how little the benelux is compared to rest of the world. No one really cares about the Netherlands because it's to damn small! The effort it takes to integrate the Netherlands in this publicity stunt, doesn't compare to the results generated by a larger country like germany. Instead of whining about the absence of a dutch magazine, just buy a magazine on the list, because most likely, it will lie on the shelf of most shops.

Oh how amusing...
1) I'm aware that I've played GW for some time and I haven't seen something this disgusting so I can say it does NOT belong to GW... Have you seen something like that in GW? No? Good
2) I'm not desiging this game, but I think designers should look at few things:
a) what will people like
and
b) does it really fit GW world
And it HAS TO BE a) and b), not a) or b), because you may even find some ppl that will like GW with lasers, aliens and that kind of stuff but they DO NOT fit into GW world, is that clear?
And don't even dare to tell me that this asura something fits in GW world...

For all of you horrified at the new creature in Guild Wars (personally I love it), just think of it like this: They're basically evolved rabbits. And if that doesn't put your mind at rest, think of this also: The Charr are basically evolved cats.
To be honest, we have seen something like this before. This thing strongly resembles a marsupial of some kind. Such as a bilby. The Charr are a feline race. Sure, the Charr are more fierce, but we don't know if this new creature will be fierce or not. Personally, I think Charr hunters are way cuter than this Asura anyway. I mean, the way they cover their eyes and move their little heads around... So adorable! (Well, okay, they're actually putting their hands up to shield their eyes from the sun, in a lookout sort of way, but from a lot of angles it looks like they're covering their eyes)

I hate to say it, but GW is a fantasy setting, so therefore at some level most any type or appearance of creature could fit into it.
I agree that i dont want to see pokermon-style creatures in GW, but this mini-pet is well designed, has distinct features and not cartoony.
As far as a player race goes in GW2, well that's all speculation at best anyway so should be largely ignored.

The Asura has nothing on cutesy-ness compared to the giant Luxon Turtles.
Plus, the people complaining about this thing seem to be conflicting a bit, or maybe it's just me. Is the thing cutesy, or disgusting and ugly? Maybe those calling it ugly are just too darn macho to go "Awww!". Is that the problem?
Honestly, everyone just needs to remember how to smile. Remember that this is also just a game - is it really so wrong to have fun? Must everything be super-serious, deadly, gruesome, ninjas, pirates, and Chuck Norris? Everything to the EXTREME! Please. Once you grow out of adolescence, you learn that it's okay to enjoy things sometimes.

For me, its hard to enjoy game when I see something like.. this thing
And I don't cry about this asura as a mini-pet- you can't release pets in arenas anyway -,-
But IF asuras will be a playable race in GW... well, god help us
IF!

Cool...
Dwarves are in almost every fantasy game, they are in GW and you know what?
They fit! These dwarves look normally, stone summit dwarves look even cooler, but this asura thing DOES NOT look cool, it DOESNT fit
Elves are cool too, but they have to have normal design- do you really think Guild Wars that everyone knows will be the same (or better) Guild Wars with this little asuras running around? I mean what the hell is that? Its disgusting man + rabbit offspring- thats not even normal -,-
See?Melandru as nature's goddess is crying in the corner
Balthazar too- 'cos from more-serious-game GW is changing into gotta-catch-em'all!!11 Wiggly, fuzzy, cootie, rabbit-ish, weee...
Makes me sick, really

And to think there may be an option to look like one of them in Guild Wars 2.
